Hi Indy, just yesterday I saw (together with Christopher, a friend) the first half of this film where Zizek, as one would expect, reflects (among others) on “Birds”. I have seen and analyzed that movie so often (Birds, not the Zizek-one) and still it impresses me. Later I googled “Bodega Bay” (such a shame: I was in SF in June and didn’t have the time to visit Bodega Bay!) and found that the official site links a set of pictures of locations where the movie was shot. Nice to check out.
Now I am somehow even more frightened as I am informed that this place (=Bodega Bay) exists outside the realm of its filmic dimension.
-might seem trivial, but never thought of it as a geographically located “thisworldly” place; learning about its factuality makes the movie more “documentary” than I thought a Hitchcock movie could ever be.
@Christopher: I know what you mean. I additionally was surprised about how proud the city was being background for one of the most famous horror films ever!
