When the Glass

by Dushan on September 30, 2005

Hi friends,

It’s Friday again. And to celebrate the day I put up a new template for Shtikl.com, hoping you like it. The point was to make the site’s layout distracting the reader from the cartoons as little as possible.

The new layout is based on the gorgeous Chocolate Candy template. The background pattern was designed by the brilliant people at squidfingers.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend! The next cartoon will be here on sunday!

Yours
Dushan

But what does the pessimist do when the glass is full?

(Good luck in the blog battle!)

Indeterminancy has a good point. From the looks of the cartoon, he ends up pouring it on his own head.:) Might be a good response for a pessimist. Get him just the bad news result he craves. :0

Allmost forgot. Kudos on the new look. Very elegant and understated. Does exactly what you want it to do. I didn’t realize how *young* the other design was until I saw this one. Great choice.

Thanks Liz. When Drybones had called Shtikl “cool”, I was shocked and a little embarrased too: My
cartoons were cool, okay, but what about the layout?!

So I thought a) what is “cool”?
(I decided: content over layout-schmanziness)

b) what distracts as little as possible from the content? (and I came to the conclusion that ugliness and over-simplification would distract too.)

c) What do I like - as it still is my blog?

And this was the solution I found.
Glad you like it.

The idea to this cartoon came when a self-called optimist proclaimed the age-old saying on the half-full/empty glass. My first reaction was: “This glass ain’t half full, it’s freaking empty!” The second reaction was: Let’s write this down… ;-)

Indie: Should a pessimist be confronted with a full glass, he would suspect it to be either too hot, or too cold, or poisoned. Or all three.

I would say a pessimest would think that you want him to give the glass to someone else. And you only gave it to him because he was closer.

I like the different suggestions for the pessimist!
