Master and pupil were walking through the countryside. They walked through a small forest, crossed a meadow and took a hike up a hill.
Half way up the hill they came to a cave. In front of the cave sat a hermit meditating holding his face towards the bright sun as one would expect of a meditating hermit.
As they were approaching, the pupil saw that the hermit from time to time opened one eye and tried to look into the sun. It was way to bright, so he quickly shut his eyes again.
The Master greeted the hermit, the hermit greeted too. Master and pupil moved on.
“What is this man’s job?” asked the pupil.
“He is waiting”, answered the Master.
“Waiting for what?” asked the pupil.
The Master said: “Some years ago he told me, he was waiting for a miracle.”
“What a crazy thing to do!” uttered the pupil.
But the Master smiled. He said: “Aren’t we all? I mean - waiting.”
