Update: One of the masters of cartoon art, Yaakov “Drybones” Kirschen, sent me a mail today. He allowed me to quote him:

Your stuff is really original, intriguing, and cool. I’m putting up a link to your blog now.

Yaakov

I humbly thank. (And man am I proud.) - Yaakov a.k.a. “Dry Bones” is a syndicated cartoonist since 1973. His cartoons titled “Dry Bones” deal mostly with the Middle East “Peace” Process. He is now entering the blogosphere, publishing old and new stuff on his blog at drybonesblog.blogspot.com. Please pay him a visit.

It was a man who drew the cartoon. That is pretty self-destructive behavior, I think. :) Men write those movies too.

“Men write those movies too.” Yeah. It seems so extreme to me when you look at Hitchock Movies. His view on women is very, very stereotypized. They always need men to save them. (Unless other men have killed them before.) It was Hitchcock’s Films where this first came to my attention. If I think of other movies I have seen, it seems to be some repetitive pattern. iRobot, Forrest Gump, Pretty Woman, you-name-it. Women act irrationally, men (try to) save women. Maybe that is the type of women filmmakers believe the audience wants to see. I don’t know, you tell me… :-)

There’s always the German entry, “Run Lola Run” (”Lola rennt”). What a woman!

Congratulations on this! It must feel wonderful. Now you must not discount the honor he has bestowed.

I don’t think it was just Hitchock. I think it was the worldview of the times. Stories from every writer worked basically the same way. Still do. “Don’t go in the basement.” Who goes? The girl.

Well, my wife has been trying to save ME for some 33 years now. (With some need for it, and some success too.) She probably has not seen enough movies - otherwise she would know where her place is. :-)

I know a few (dozen) women like this.
They lament and complain how terrible their lives and the men they choose are but they wont change anything, and damn sure wont let you help.
