Ask the Tree

The Master wanted to go for a trip by himself for a couple of days.

The pupil asked him: “Master, how will I learn while you are gone?”

The Master laughed, then he said: “Do you see that tree? Go and ask it!”

The pupil thought that the Master wanted to insult him. Then he bethought and answered: “But Master, the tree will not answer.”

“Surely not”, said the Master, “but you will ask!”

When I started my blog I intended to write a story a day, taking it one day at a time, with no idea of how long I could keep it up. My inspiration was John Cage’s work Indeterminacy (see: http://www.lcdf.org/indeterminacy). I had hoped that my stories would be of a similar genre and style as Cage’s work, because of the inspiration, but that did not turn out at all. I think my writing is completely different. I detect a Zen-like quality in your writing that brings you very close to Cage, which I admire and “bewundere”. (Things like that sound better in German). I absolutely applaud what you are doing and hope that you continue for a long time.
